New Baby Turtle

A few nights ago, I had a dream that a little baby turtle was biting my fingers, again and again and again. Of course, I thought, “Aww, I would love to adopt this fellow as my pet.”

Then, a couple days later, my brother found a little baby turtle wandering outside the house, near the garbage cans. No one in the neighborhood has claimed him as their pet, so I’m adopting him.

Here he is:

This little guy doesn’t have a name yet, so I’ve decided to choose a name from the suggestions in the comments section.

I’ll make my decision on May 26, so be sure to post your name suggestions before then.

How about “Sheltowee”, the Shawnee word for “big turtle” since he probably a giant in his own mind! Look at that presence he has! πŸ™‚

Oh Jeremy! You have no idea what you are in for. That little guy is a red-earred slider. 2 of them called to me years ago. We ended up with an aquarium that was 8ft. long…plus other nec. stuff. But I’d just call him your ‘DINNER PLATE’ because that is how large he is going to get. They live forEVER. Namaste. πŸ™‚

  3. Make sure he gets some direct sunlight every day, even if it’s only a few minutes and even if you have to hold a mirror to angle the light to him. When he gets too big to carry outside, you’ll have to invest in a special light bulb.

    Call him Nibbles.

  4. No one has gone for the obvious Yertle the Turtle? (or am I dating myself). The other idea that jumped in my head. Oscar – ’cause you found him close to a garbage can.

Whatever you decide lotsa luck with your new l’ll buddy.
